Scary and Spooky, just like a Creepy Grim for Halloween should be! – Angie, Southern Halloween Queen

When I saw this Creepy Grim on Liz’s blog, he immediately reminded me of the Halloween grims that my friend Andi and her husband make and put out each year for Halloween in something they call “Grim Hallow“.

Then when I jumped over to Liz’s blog to read more about her Creepy Grim for Halloween, I saw that she was inspired by Andi and Jonathan’s Grim Hallow!

How fun is that!

I’m thinking that we might have to make our own grim this year!

“Shared with permission from Liz at HoosierHomemade.com”

If you haven’t heard of the Halloween tradition of being BOOed, I can’t wait to share it with you! It’s pretty simple. When you’ve been BOOed, you receive a small Halloween treat from a friend or neighbor. When you BOO someone, you create the treat or gift.

You’ve been BOOed! This is such a fun Halloween tradition! – Angie, Southern Halloween Queen

Then after you BOO someone with their Halloween gift, you make sure you leave a little something to let that person know that they should carry on the tradition and BOO someone else.

I can’t wait to think of some more fun ideas!

Liz made up some super cute BOOs and I can’t wait for you to see them!

You’ve been BOOed!

Liz says,

Have you ever been Booed? No? Well, it’s actually pretty fun and simple! When you “BOO” someone, it’s a lot like Trick-or-Treat, except you are giving the gift rather than getting. Simply create a small bag or bucket full of treats, leave it on the doorstep of a neighbor or friend, then ring their door bell and leave before they see you. In the Boo Bucket you can add any treat or little surprise that you like. In return, then they “BOO” another friend, and it continues.

“This post/recipe originally appeared on my main blog BigBearsWife.com”

If you’ve read my food blog, BigBearsWife.com you have probably noticed that when Halloween comes around, there is a bit of a Nightmare Before Christmas theme happening! I mean after all I did make Jack Skellington Apples, I’ve made Jack Skellington Oreos, I’ve decorated the house in a The Nightmare Before Christmas theme and our pumpkins have even been carved as Jack and Sally before!

So what else did I need to add the “Nightmare Before Christmas” touches to the house? Why I needed Sally’s Potion Bottles of course!

Sally uses these potions when she makes soup for Dr. Finkelstein in the movie! The Deadly Night Shade puts him to sleep so that she can sneak out

Now I’ve got my own Worms Wort, Frog’s Breath, and Deadly Night Shade! Oh did you want your own bottles too? Good! I’ll show you how I made mine!

This is what you’ll need:

3 glass bottles – BigBear Painted mine with matte black spray paint

Mod-Podge

Foam Brushes

Scissors

Labels – I made mine using PicMonkey.com & printed them out

Once your bottles have been painted black and have had time to dry it’s time to put on the Worms Wort, Frog’s Breath and Deadly Night Shade labels!

Cut out each label and assign it to a bottle.

Next, using the foam brushes apply a thin layer of mod-podge to the back of the first label.

Stick the label onto the first bottle!

Then use the foam brush to apply a thin layer of mod-podge over the label.

Let dry!

Repeat these steps for the other two bottles!

Ahhh they’re just perfect for my coffee table, don’t you think?!!

Worms Wort!!!

and Frog’s Breath….. there’s nothing more suspicious than Frog’s Breath!

Oh and what completes the display of Sally’s Potion Bottles? Why it’s Sally’s spoon! In the movie, Sally used a spoon with holes in it to “taste” the soup to show Dr. Finkelstein that she didn’t poison it! Haha little does he know that she’s using the spoon with holes for the taste test!

For Sally’s spoon, BigBear just drilled 5 holes into one of my old wooden spoons and it turned out perfectly!

A Halloween lantern holding a little skeleton and tons of spiders gives off an eerie glow during the Halloween season with this Halloween Lantern Decoration Idea Tutorial.

“This post/recipe originally appeared on my main blog BigBearsWife.com”

I miss working on crafts. I use to craft all the time and to be honest I’ve been crafty since I was a toddler. My grandma use to give me a needle with thread when I was little to sew masterpieces in old washcloths.

I begged my parents to buy me every type of craft kit under the sun at the toy store and I could spend hours working on my crafts. I never was one for long detailed crafts though.

I wanted almost instant gratification when it came to crafts. haha. I wanted things that I could create in like an hour or less.

I wanted to work on it and be able to hold up my masterpiece soon afterward.

That’s why I love this Halloween lantern.

I’ve gotten a bit more patient as an adult when it comes to my crafts and such but I still don’t want crafts and decorations to take hours to make.

This Halloween lantern just less than 15 minutes to throw together and I LOVE how it looks hanging in our apartment.

What you’ll need:

1 black lantern (I found this one at Target but I’ve also found great lanterns at Marshalls and TJ MAXX for like $10) and the one I used is 12.25 inches (H) x 6 inches (W) x 6 inches (D)

1 – 4 inch bendable skeleton (I found mine at Target)

Plastic Spiders (You can normally find these at the dollar store or craft stores)

1 LED flickering flameless candle (I found a 3 pack at Marshalls for $5)

1 large Halloween bow (Normally I make them for my lanterns but I bought this one at Michaels already made)

1 black crow decoration

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

This is how I put mine together:

Clean the inside and the outside of the lantern before you start decorating.

Next, place your flameless candle down into the lantern. Don’t try to glue it or stick it to the lantern with anything though because you’re going to want to be able to remove it later to turn it on and off.

As far as which flameless candle to buy, I’m going to leave that up to you. I found a pack of 3 at Marshalls for like $5 but I’ve seen them at Hobby Lobby and other craft stores ranging in price from $45-$60. I don’t know about you but I’m not paying $60 for a candle.

Next, add in your plastic spiders around the candle.

I found these spiders at Target in the Halloween section but I’ve seen them at the dollar store, Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Michaels before.

I pretty much just randomly threw them into the bottom and made sure that they didn’t stay on top of the candle.

Next, bend your skeleton and place him (or her haha) down into the lantern around the candle.

Close the lid and decide on where you want the bow to be.

Hot glue the bow to the top, hold for about 30 or 45 seconds or until the glue sets. Fluff the bow.

Next hot glue the black crow to the top of the lantern so it’s just peeping out from behind the bow.

https://www.bigbearswife.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/14512236_1158120297588941_3398064900667342848_n.mp4

Now turn your ghostly lantern on, dim the lights and enjoy the eerie glow of your Halloween lantern!

Either already made or if you have space and time, maybe this is something that kids could make during a Halloween party! Heck, I would have loved to make something like this when I was little at a Halloween party.

Not only are these Frankenstein Luminaries super cute during the day but they also look pretty neat at night!

Look at Frankenstein lighting up!

Spiders are pretty spooky to me even if it’s not Halloween! So these Spider Nest Lanterns would be extra creepy for me to have at a Halloween party!

However, I think they’d make the perfect decorations!

So spooky and fun! What a great spider craft to make for your party! – Angie, Southern Halloween Queen

Not only are these Spider Nest Lanterns pretty easy to make but they actually light up too! You could display them around the house, line the steps with them or put them outside on the porch at night!

These Spider Nest Lanterns outside with a few pumpkins and carved Jack-O-Lanterns would make for one spooky looking doorway to the house for Halloween.

I might have to make a few of these for the back porch this year and toss a few extra plastic spiders on there for good measure! I’m pretty sure that you can get a huge bag of plastic spiders at the dollar store around Halloween!

“This post/recipe originally appeared on my main blog BigBearsWife.com”

The New Winter/Christmas Deco Mesh Tutorial E-book is now available on BigBearsWife.com!! This E-book is packed full of detailed photos and step by step directions! Grab your copy today!

This Halloween Deco Mesh Wreath Tutorial has gotten so popular over the past few years!

Thank you to everyone that’s stopped by and loved the step by step photos! I hope this will help you make your very own Halloween Deco Mesh Wreath! – Angie

I’ve loved these Deco Mesh wreaths from the moment I first saw them in one of the local shops here, but I couldn’t bring myself to fork over the money for one.

The Deco Mesh wreaths around here go for somewhere between $80 – $400.

Holy Moly.

I just can’t do it. I can’t pay that much!

I would feel guilty and my husband would probably disown me haha But since I love to be crafty and could spend my entire paycheck in Hobby Lobby (could, not would lol) I figured that I could figure out this whole “Deco Mesh Wreath” process and make my own for a fraction of the price.

If I can get everything on sale, I can normally make one of these for somewhere between $20 and $35. Just depending on how much “stuff” I add to it.

Really, it’s the little “add ons” that jack the price up on these. However, I’ve been stocking up on stuff from the Dollar Tree for my wreaths! I hit the jackpot for Halloween stuff there!

Let’s move on though! I’m going to show you how I made my new Halloween Deco Mesh Wreath!

Which I’m totally IN LOVE with! haha. I’m also obsessed with making these now so I’m pretty sure that there will be more Deco Mesh Tutorials on here soon!

I have also broken this post down into two sections.

PART 1 – Will show you how to make a “Work Wreath” (Click HERE)
PART 2 – Will show you how I make the Deco Mesh Wreath (BELOW)

Halloween Deco Mesh Wreath Tutorial

For the Halloween Wreath

What I used:

(Green tube ribbon – optional, I thought I would use it but didn’t – it comes from the floral section of Hobby Lobby)

**You’ll also need a glue gun**

First, you’ll need to make a Work Wreath Form (unless you’ve bought one pre-made). I have a tutorial on making that here.

Done! Ok, now it’s time to start making the wreath!

Lay out all of your “add-ons”. Here are a few that I picked out for my wreath. I love this black glitter pumpkin!

I got it from the Dollar Tree and was originally going to use it as just a black pumpkin because I didn’t like the face that was carved onto the other side. (That’s why it’s facing this way in the photos).

But it turns out that the pumpkin light inside actually changes colors and looks really neat so I decided to turn it around on the finished wreath.

These green and purple shimmery floral picks match perfectly with my Deco mesh ribbon! I found them over in the Christmas section of Hobby Lobby! I love to look over there for picks even if I’m not making a “Christmas” wreath because there is so much to choose from. I’ve gotten things for the Halloween wreath and a Fall wreath from the Christmas section!

This little Raven/Crow came from the Dollar Tree. I had originally seen one like this at a local shop (that sells these Deco Mesh Wreaths) for $10. I really, really wanted him for my wreath but couldn’t pay $10 for a fake bird. BUT then, I found this little guy at the Dollar Store. SOLD!

These glitter pumpkins were hiding in the Thanksgiving day section of Hobby Lobby.

And these little Skeletons were in the Halloween section of the Dollar Tree. I think they’re suppose to be Halloween “garland” but I cut the rope off and just used them individuality on the wreath.

So let’s get started! I hope that I can explain this well!

Start with your work wreath on a flat surface.

Un wrap the large tube of deco mesh and gather the end . Take the end of the deco mesh and place it into the center of one of the inside pipe cleaners.

Twist the pipe cleaner around the mesh to hold it in place.

I place my deco mesh off to the side and just unroll as I go.

Move down the deco mesh a few inches and bunch it together again.

Secure onto the next section of the wire wreath with a pipe cleaner twist. (Work along the inner circle first)

Continue this pattern.

Gather the deco mesh.

Bunch it together, go to the next pipe cleaner twist, place the deco mesh in between the pipe cleaners and twist them to hold the deco mesh in place.

I hope that the photos are giving you a good idea on how to do this.

Up close! Place deco mesh “bunch” into the center of the pipecleaner.

Twist to secure.

Continue around the wreath.

Working ONLY on the inner circle!

Once you’ve completed the entire inner circle and get back to the starting point, start with the pipe cleaners directly above the “starting point” pipe cleaner.

Now do the same process around the outer circle, making sure to bunch and twist deco mesh into each pipe cleaner. Fluffy the deco mesh as you go.

An entire roll of deco mesh will cover the inside and outside areas of the wreath. When you run out of Deco Mesh, twist the last bit into the last pipe cleaner.

The base color is complete!

Next, take your second, small roll of deco mesh ribbon.

Starting on the inner circle, add the green deco mesh into one of the pipe cleaner. Twist to hold.

Just as your did with the base color, work around the wreath with the green.

Bunching some together, moving to the next pipe cleaner, placing the deco mesh and then twisting to secure it. Do this for the inner and outer circles just like the base color.

Now your wreath base is finished, but you’ll still have all of the crazy pipe cleaners sticking out everywhere!

Flip the wreath over so that you can see the wire base.

Working your way around the wreath, pull the pipe cleaners around and to the back of the wreath.

Twist them onto the wire base.

This will create a clean look as well as help pull the deco mesh towards the center of the wreath!

Looks much better!

Now flip your wreath over and fluff the deco mesh!

You’re ready to add things onto the wreath!

I use a glue gun and hot glue smaller items onto my wreath. for larger/heavier items, I hot glue a pipe cleaner to the back of these items, push it onto the wreath and then secure it by twisting the pipe cleaner around the base through the deco mesh.

I normally hang my deco mesh wreath up for this part. I place all of the picks where I think they should go and gently set the other items into “pockets” in the wreath. I also use items to cover up some of the places where the pipe cleaners or wire wreath can still be seen.

Arrange everything BEFORE gluing them down haha. I normally have to arrange things and step back quite a few times before I’m happy with everything. Once I’m happy with the way it looks, I’ll go around the wreath and hot glue everything into place!

This is my finished wreath!

I love it so much!

My Raven and Witches sign!

Those glitter pumpkins have floral picks on them so I could just put hot glue on the bottom and the stick and stick it into the wreath.

The little skeletons only needed a drop of hot glue.
